  • Royal Correspondence!

    Fri 31 Mar 2023

Did you see our Instagram post last week, sharing our correspondence from Buckingham Palace! Needless to ay, the children (and staff) were very excited! Thank you to Mrs Lipscombe for organising the tree planting  and letter writing, and for helping our children to love and cherish the natural world.

  • Netball County Finals

Thu 30 Mar 2023 Mrs Finn

On Thursday, our year 6 netball team travelled to Watling Academy in Milton Keynes to compete in the Bucks County Netball final, having already won the local competition.

They played 8 matches during the day against the other top schools in the county and I am incredibly proud of how well they coped against such fierce competition. They showed fantastic team spirit and enthusiasm throughout the day and every member of the team scored at least one goal. A special mention to Darcey who was voted player of the tournament by the players from the opposing teams! They were all incredible ambassadors for CSPA and should be very proud of themselves.

  • Year 3 DT/Science Project - Sandwich Making

Thu 30 Mar 2023 Ms Meek

The Year 3 children thoroughly enjoyed creating their own sandwiches this week and of course, eating them for lunch! These were no ordinary sandwiches though.....they needed to have nutritious healthy ingredients and be as imaginative as possible, so we had all sorts of creations from animals to stars and the Loch Ness monster to snowmen! What a creative group of children we have in Year 3. We all looked around the classrooms to view the displayed sandwiches before any eating was allowed and in the afternoon they evaluated their sandwich as to its strengths and whether any improvements could be made. Thank you so much to parents for your support with providing the ingredients.

  • Year 3 Ancient Greek Day

Wed 29 Mar 2023 Miss Goldsack

On Wednesday, Year 3 were transported to Ancient Greece, with a whole host of activities and crafts to enjoy. There were some wonderful costumes, thank you to parents for your support with that!

In the morning, our fabulous Arts team, Ms Waegner, Mrs Nicholas and Mrs Lipscombe, led activities in music, drama and languages, all linked to Ancient Greece and Greek culture. After lunch, the children made their very own Olympic wreaths, and then used clay to create some Olympic medals to incorporating elements of the modern and ancient games.

The children also got to try various foods that the Ancient Greeks enjoyed, including pitta bread dipped in olive oil, feta cheese and olives. They also got to see what a pomegranate looks like, and they all were able to make links to the myth we studied last week - Persephone and the Pomegranate Seeds. As a special treat, they even got to turn the water in their bottles into 'wine' (with some blackcurrant juice... apologies to any parents who were momentarily alarmed if their children came home saying they drank wine!) - they enjoyed a real Ancient Greek feast!

Here is what some of the children had to say about the day:

    • "I liked trying all the food - I didn't like the olive oil but the rest of it was really tasty!" Jack
    • "The food was delicious and I liked how we could learn how the Greeks lived and everything they invented" Seb
    • "I liked dressing up and pretending to be part of Ancient Greece" Flynn J
    • "I enjoyed tasting the Greek food - I had never tried pomegranate or feta cheese before!" Callum
    • "I enjoyed learning the Greek language because I was able to write a sentence in Greek all about my favourite things" Ella
    • "I really enjoyed making the medals out of clay because it was really detailed and you got to be creative! It was fun making two different designs on each side" Poppy S

  • Walk to School and Be Healthy week

    Fri 24 Mar 2023

Despite a few showers, lots of children have been able to walk to school and do extra exercise during playtimes this week. Our dedicated Year 6 Road Safety Officers (Erin, Emma, Kabir, Lucca and Willow) did a sterling job of handing out raffle tickets to walkers. Year 4 ran a mile each day and progressively became fitter throughout the week. Scott and Lauren from Core Fitness joined us on several mornings during the week for a ‘Wake and Shake’ before school. Some of our very keen Year 6 sports leaders set up an inter-house basketball challenge at lunch times. During play times, the children were getting extra exercise by dancing to the music on the stage - thank you Mr Eggleton!

It has also been good to see children getting back on track with healthy choices at snack and lunch times by bringing in fresh fruit and vegetables to eat. They seem to prefer it too. We look forward to seeing which class is the healthiest!

On Groovy Shoes Day, children enjoyed wearing their favourite shoes and lots of children chose to change into their slippers in the classroom. On Wildlife Wednesday, Emma, Erin and Lola (Year 6) delivered an endearing whole school Collective Worship, inspiring lots of children to think about urban wildlife and ways of helping them, such as putting out water and planting wildflowers. That evening, William (Year 4) went home and told his parents what he had learned about hedgehogs.

Mrs Lipscombe, who is also passionate about wildlife, has been planting lots of wildflowers with all year groups so we should have a lovely display from June onwards. Amaira (Year 4) said that she had asked her parents to plant some wildflowers at the weekend. It would be lovely if other children did likewise.

We hope that this week inspires children to change some of their habits to healthier ones and to continue to walk to school, keep fit, eat healthily and start considering our wildlife friends too. Many thanks for the effort you have made to support your children during this week.

  • Year 5 and 6 Football

Mon 20 Mar 2023 Mr Green (PE Lead)

The football teams have been busy representing the school recently, with our Year 5 Girls' and Boys' teams taking on Robertswood in their first friendly game of the year.

The boys played an excellent match, with Robertswood just clinching it with a 2-1 victory. On the next pitch, the girls put on a dominant display beating their opponents 5-0.

Two weekends ago, our Year 6 Girls' team were invited to Chesham Prep School for a tournament. The girls played incredibly well, so well we kept a clean sheet in every game. We were very proud to have finished the tournament in fourth place, only two goals behind the team taking third.

I am very grateful to parents for their support in taking the children to the games and cheering on CSPA from the side-lines.

  • British Science week

Mon 20 Mar 2023 MIss Gilbert (Science Lead)

British Science Week comes to CSPA!

This week we have been celebrating all things Science! On Monday we kicked off British Science week with a whole day dedicated to Science. The theme this year is 'connections' and the children have been thinking lots about what this means in preparation for their homework and class activities.

From egg experiments to astronaut applications the children were involved in a whole range of very exciting activities. Year 3 had a go at creating their very own lava lamps using oil, baking soda and vinegar! Year 4 participated in an egg and teeth experiment and Year 5 spent the day creating applications to become astronauts! The whole school was also involved in a bridge building activity, where the classes were mixed around and the children were set a challenge to build a bridge from straws and masking tape! They did a fantastic job!

Here are some quotes from some of the children:

"I enjoyed making the bridges as it was fun to join in with another year group who I wouldn't usually work with" - Kate Class 8

"I enjoyed the astronaut team building activity because I got the chance to learn more about my classmates" - Amelia Class 8

"I loved seeing what the Hubble telescope saw on my classmates birthdays as I find space really interesting" - Ella Class 8

"Did you know that blackcurrant is worse for your teeth than coke!" - Olivia Class 6

"I enjoyed the egg experiment and the bridge making was fun!" - Kitty Class 4

"I enjoyed pouring the liquids into each other, it was a fun experiment." - Poppy S Class 1

"I enjoyed watching Emily's wonderlab - you should watch it! I enjoyed making the lava lamps as it was cool." - Oriole Class 1

  • Walk To School and Be Healthy Week is next week!

Fri 17 Mar 2023 Mrs Botia (PSHE Lead)

Our Spring term theme is 'Walking With Wildlife’. The weather looks warmer for walking to school next week so please make a big effort. If you need to drive, try to park further away and walk; our neighbours will be most grateful. Greet our lovely Year 6 Road Safety Officers, who will be rewarding children with raffle tickets and look out for any wildlife on your way to school. To maximise as many opportunities to be as active as possible, we would like children to wear their PE kit to school every day next week.

This is a perfect time to get back into good habits to become fitter and healthier. There will be exercise before school run by Scott at Core Fitness. During play times, the Year 6 Sports Leaders will be organising challenges and Year 4 will be running a mile every day. Please make sure your child comes to school with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables as snacks and in their packed lunch. We will be collecting data to find out which class is the healthiest to win the trophy.

Tuesday is Groovy Shoesday. Children must wear their PE kit and can wear or bring their favourite shoes or slippers for the classroom. No donations are required.

Mrs Lipscombe will be teaching children about the connections of wild flowers to support wildlife and will be planting different species with each year group.

Erin L, Emma and Lola in Year 6 will be raising awareness of our urban wildlife during a special Collective Worship on Wednesday.

Finally, since International Earth Hour is on Saturday 25th, we will be staging our own Earth Hour on Friday, so at 10:00-11:00am we will be turning off all screens, computers, lights and even the kettles in the staff room!
It is sure to be a little bit different and a fun week for all.

    Mrs Botia (PSHE Leader)
