  • The Big Noise

    Tue 24 Oct 2017
The orchestra had a wonderful time on the last day of Arts Week at the Royal Grammar School as guests of the Chiltern Music Academy. The children played in sectional rehearsals and then came together in a massive orchestra of about 250 players for the grand finale. It was a great opportunity to mix with friends and past pupils who have just moved up to their secondary schools. Everyone was very happy to enjoy a new school venture and perform with great confidence! Well done everyone!
  • Arts Week 2017 - Shoebox Theatres

    Sun 22 Oct 2017 Abi (Y5)
Today, I was in Year 5 and I really enjoyed the activity which was to make a theatre out of a shoebox. First we covered the box in tissue paper, next we selected a scene from a musical. We then created the scene using paper, card, pipe cleaners and clay.
  • Arts Week 2017 - Lion King Sculptures

    Sun 22 Oct 2017 Jessica (Y6)
My favourite activity was definitely the whole school group activity where we gathered together in groups to create Lion King character sculptures. The frame of the sculptures was made out of willow branches and masking tape. They were then covered in special tissue paper.
  • Arts Week 2017 Highlights

Sun 22 Oct 2017 Henry and Aman (Y6)

In year 6 we designed workhouse boys inspired by Oliver Twist. First we had to sketch the outline of the character we were creating. After doing that, everyone painted their character using watercolours. Finally, using a black pen everyone outlined their creation to make it look even better! In the afternoon the teachers introduced an activity which we designed a silhouette of Victorian London linked to musical scenery. Also we watched and sang some of Oliver Twist which gave us an understanding of the story. It was great fun and we used lots of different skills.

In Year 5 we created and designed shoebox theatre sets. First we had to make the background of the scene. To do this a lot of people used patterned paper and crepe paper to create an amazing effect. Some people made characters on lollipop sticks then poked holes in the box to make them move around which really made the stage come to life!

In Year 4 we looked at animals in theatre and made mini snakes and dragon puppets. To make the snakes everyone used kitchen roll then cut it in half. After that everyone decorated their snake using gems, coloured paper, googly eyes and feathers. Next we had to create the body by gluing paper and also folding it that created a paper chain which we then stuck to the head of the snake. The next thing we did in year 4 was making a Chinese dragon puppet. First we had to colour and cut out the dragon. Then, we picked up some crepe paper and folded it and stuck it to the head and the tail of the dragon. We think they looked fantastic!

In year 3 we were inspired by theatre production props and we created our own puppets and masks.  We used lots of different materials and techniques to create our own wonderful finished pieces.

On top of all this we enjoyed a theatre production, stomp style junk percussion drumming, musical theatre workshops, west end in school workshops, giant paper sculptures – we loved it all! Thank you so much to Ms. Meek and all the teachers for organising a fantastic and jam packed week

  • Arts Week 2017 - Lion King Masks

    Sun 22 Oct 2017 Ella (Y6)
We made a template of our choice of character from the Lion King musical. We painted it and then added other features to their faces. Our masks were completed when we added a stick to support our masks - they were ready!

Last Saturday, 65 children represented the school at our first cross country match of the 2017-18 season. It was a fantastic morning of competitive running, enthusiasm and wonderful teamwork. All children did their very best and should be very proud of themselves! Many children gained individual and team medals - congratulations to all of those children! Well done to everyone involved and thank you to members of staff and parents for their support.
  • Year 4 Sport Superstars

Wed 18 Oct 2017 Acacia Dew (Year 4)

On Tuesday 17th October, 5 girls and 5 boys went to Davenies School to take part in a superstars competition.

There were 12 different events. For example: hockey dribbling, relays and target throwing. Last of all was the tug-of-war. Our best event was the relay because we were all very fast at the different stations. We all did very well and we came second!

  • Year 6 Boys Football Tournament

    Thu 12 Oct 2017

Last Saturday morning, the Year 6 football team participated in the next round of the Chiltern and South Bucks Primary Schools FA tournament. The following report is written by Thomas, Dexter and Danny:

It was Saturday morning and we were getting ready for our warm-up. For our first match, we were playing against Holmer Green and we won 3-0! Jayden scored a hat-trick! After the first match, we played against a challenging Butler's Court team which ended at 0-0. We then played Farnham Common and Aaron scored a magnificent goal from the halfway line which resulted in a 1-0 victory. We were now through to the semi-finals. The match went to penalties. It was tense! After a few saves and misses, Jake scored to settle the match. Onto the final against Gerrards Cross. We just missed out on winning the whole tournament, but we still ended up as runners-up and qualified for the next round!

  • Year 6 Moon Cakes!

Sun 08 Oct 2017 Miss Murray
On Thursday 5th October, Year 6 had the opportunity to make their own Chinese mooncakes (yue bing) in groups in order to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival.  The teams had to work together in order to perfect each step and have a beautiful resultant pastry. Children also made their own mooncake boxes to carry their sweet treats in.  We think they did a smashing job, don't you?
  • The Life Bus Visit

Sun 08 Oct 2017 By Massimo and Alexander

This week year 6 participated in the Life Bus SCARF sessions sponsored by the Rotary Club.  The sessions focused on how to make real life decisions on how to make your future life choices. When we stepped into the life bus we felt excited as well as scared to start talking about the human body and everything you put into your body and how it has an effect on you.

The life bus was a calm and safe space, our guide a lady called Anna who runs the life bus. We really enjoyed it and had lots of interesting discussions and learnt new things.
