  • Arts Week 2018 - 'The Decades'

    Tue 23 Oct 2018
The children have enjoyed a fantastic week of activities prepared by their teachers and visiting artists. Year 6 were joined for two days by Emily Cooling to make beautiful willow and tissue paper lanterns decorated with silhouette pictures of winter while the other year groups made wire and silver foil sculptures in workshops with artist and inventor Darcy Turner.

Everyone took part in dance sessions with Darren and Sophie from the Dance Days company, learning dances from differtent decades such as disco, jive, the charleston and rock and roll, culminating in year groups performing to each other. Ria from the Crew Company provided wonderfully interactive sessions on the decades, aided by many artefacts and visual aids. The role plays involved all sorts of characterisations ranging from the Spice Girls, complete with sparkly dresses and huge wigs to a masked Margaret Thatcher and a bridal Princess Diana. The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh presided over the proceedings accompanied by a (toy) corgi of course!

On Thursday afternoon we all watched a highly amusing and energetic version of Charlotte's Web by M and M Productions. The children enjoyed seeing the baby piglet grow to a life sized version and the costumes and scenery were used to great effect.

In classrooms the staff arranged activities ranging from fashion designs and cartoons across the decades to Anish kapoor sculptures, dancing the macarena and making pompoms. Over half term the children will need to complete their arts week diaries and year group winners will be decided when we return.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make the week such a success, especially to Ms Meek who worked tirelessly to coordinate the entire week!

  • Visit from the Science Dome for Year 5

Fri 19 Oct 2018 Lizzie Alden (Y5 Pupil)

Last Thursday, everyone in Year 5 had a chance to go into the Science Dome. The Science Dome is a tent held up by a fan. When we entered the dome, we laid on the floor and looked up to see various planets zooming through the atmosphere!

At the end we watched a video about our galaxy and how our solar system was created. All galaxies are full of stars and one day the stars formed a solar system; our solar system.

The one thing I really remembered clearly was that Jupiter has a large red spot with a storm of acid rain in it.

  • Autumn Term Be Healthy Walk to School Week

    Fri 12 Oct 2018

The fabulous weather this week was incredibly timely for our first ‘Walk To School and Be Healthy Week’ with lots of families making a big effort to walk to school. We kicked off the week with Year 4 running a mile and Mr Eggleton managed to set up music in both playgrounds, which the children thoroughly enjoyed; they were showing us some great dance moves. Even the die-hard footballers joined in! Our new Year 6 officers have been enthusiastically handing out raffle tickets and organising different sporting challenges at break times.  As always, Groovy Shoesday was welcomed by the children, who enjoyed wearing their favourite shoes and slippers; we raised a great sum of money for the JDRP charity, which funds research into Type 1 diabetes. Without doubt, the highlight of the week was a life size CoOp carrot, which came to school, played football and did some aerobics; the children absolutely loved it! We were very grateful to The Co Op for their generosity in donating a large variety of fruit: bananas, apples, pears and plums, enjoyed by all the children; it was a great way of promoting healthy eating. Many children appeared to have a lot of fun taking part in our ‘healthy animal snacks’ competition sponsored by the Co Op; winners will be announced next week. To close the week, Year 6 delivered an assembly on ‘Road Safety’, Mrs Alburg organised an inter-house basketball challenge and the traditional conga looped around the playground at lunchtime. We would like to extend our thanks to all families who took part this week and our local neighbours who kindly supported it. Keep exercising and eating healthily! Well done Mrs Botia for your endless enthusiasm in organising such a memorable week!

    Life Bus

Life Bus came to school this week for Years 4 and 6. Kay, our instructor talked to the children about how to keep fit and healthy. The children were able to see a life size interactive dummy with internal organs which lit up when pressed. They enjoyed learning about the circulatory, respiratory and nervous system. Kay also touched upon the effects of alcohol and smoking, in a child friendly way. Finally, through a fun video allowing them an imaginary journey to another planet, they learned about the benefits of being unique, having rules and staying together to help each other. The children responded very well in the Life Bus and they were all talking about it at break times. Our thanks go to the Misbourne Matins Rotary Club, which contributed towards the cost.

  • Cross Country at Gayhurst School

Fri 12 Oct 2018 Mrs Alburg
On Saturday, our CSPA runners competed in our first cross country match of the season hosted by Gayhurst School. As always, our children were magnificent in their red, blue and gold. The team effort was amazing despite the heavy, relentless rain! We had a great amount of success with individual first place  runners, many in the top 10 and team medals in many year groups. Thank you to all the parents and members of staff for their support, and of course our wonderful children!
  • Girls Football

Fri 12 Oct 2018 Mr Hicks

Girls’ Football Match report by Grace and Ella (Class 10)

“On October 2nd 2018, Chalfont St Peter Academy played Little Chalfont in the first game of the season. Eager to play, CSPA started positively. With a great tackle from Acacia, the ball was dribbled to the goal and the year 5 student became the first player to score. Shortly after the first success, Ella took the ball from Little Chalfont and scored from the edge of the box. Everyone was ecstatic to celebrate two nil in the first half. After a five-minute break, CSPA confidently jogged onto the pitch ready to start. A Little Chalfont player whizzed past the defender, shot on target and was denied a ball by Niamh, who kept our sheet clean. Soon after, Megan heroically passed the ball to Grace who took CSPA to three nil. 10 minutes into the second half, Grace passed the ball to Katie who booted into the back of the net. Cheering and shouting, Poppy carried on the streak of goals. Five nil was a confident start to the season for CSPA's girls.”
