  Roald Dahl Museum Visit: Monday 26th September 2016

   

  The Year 3 children had a splendiferous (in Dahl speak) day out at the Aylesbury County Museum and Roald Dahl Story Centre this week.

  They had already been celebrating the 100th anniversary of Roald Dahl's birth in school by reading his books and working on them in their English lessons, as well as making wonderful dream catchers, BFG style, and watching a live streaming of events on Roald Dahl Day. In an assembly, our site manager Mr Eggleton talked to them about the six months he once spent at Roald Dahl's house, painting and decorating. When he first arrived, he told us that a huge figure appeared wearing a woollen hat with holes at the front and back. Roald Dahl had a tea cosy on his head! Mr Eggleton painted Sophie Dahl's bedroom, ready for a fantastic Disney mural to be painted on the walls.

   

  At the museum the children took part in two workshops. Firstly they enjoyed making collages of Mr Twit's disgusting beard complete with remnants of food - the pictures enclosed a mirror so that they could look at themselves and remind themselves not to be like him! Later on they explored the story centre, trying all the interactive activities such as the shadow room, magnifying disgusting samples in the giant peach, dressing up and optical illusions. They crawled through the fox tunnel, travelled in the great glass elevator and took part in a role play of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as well as appearing on a green screen as tiny creatures squashed by the hand of one of the museum staff!

   

  The children conducted themselves in an exemplary fashion and the day was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Many said they wanted to go back to take their families which clearly indicates how impressed they were. We have made a special book to thank the staff for a brilliant visit.
