  • Young Entrepreneurs'

    Fri 21 Mar 2014

Our Year 6 Young Entrepreneurs had their first sale today for Mothers' Day. Having pitched the design of their products to Mrs Gale and Mrs Lown, the groups received their £20 investment from the school to begin making their gifts. As the day of the sale grew closer, the groups marketed their items with posters and tours around the year groups to advertise their ideas.

Enthusiastic buyers flocked to the Da Vinci Suite to purchase gifts for mums at the end of the day - the whole area was packed out! Several groups completely sold out and all made a handsome day's takings. All proceeds go back into the Young Entrepreneurs' fund which when pooled at the end of the year, will hopefully (as in past years) fund a trip to the V &A museum in London.

The next sale will be held at the Summer Arts Event in July. Look out for it!

Our 'Wings' from last term and our New 'Wings' from this term were awarded 'Lights of the Week' certificates today by Mrs Roffey for their outstanding performance lst week when they volunteered at the Church Hall serving teas and coffees at the Fairtrade coffee morning. Local parishioners were delighted to chat with the children and were thrilled with their enthusiasm and efficiency in clearing up and packing away at the end of the day.

    Well done The Wings!

  • New Headteacher

    Mon 10 Mar 2014

On behalf of the Governing Body I am very pleased to announce that the Governors of the school reached a unanimous decision to appoint Mrs Elizabeth Underwood as the new Headteacher of Chalfont St Peter Church of England Academy.

The appointment was made following a rigorous recruitment process from which two candidates were shortlisted. During the interview process which took place on Friday 7th March, the candidates were faced with a challenging and diverse range of tasks and panel interviews which enabled us to assess their suitablility for the position. To support this process, the Governing Body was joined by our external adviser and our Diocesan Adviser, both of whom commented on the rigorous and thorough interview process.

Mrs Underwood will become the substantive headteacher as from today.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my fellow governors, members of staff and the children for their support during this process and I am sure you will join us in offering our congratulation and support to Mrs Underwood.

We look forward to the beginning of a new era for Chalfont St Peter C of E Academy.

Mr Malcolm Whittall, Chair of Governors.

  • Book Character Dress up Day and the Big Book Swap

    Thu 06 Mar 2014

Linking with World Book Day and our ongoing Reading Theme, children cam to school dressed as a book character today. With characters ranging from Mr Fox to Pippi Longstocking, children and staff had a wonderful day engaging with activities themed around stories. Well done to everyone for entering the spirit of dressing up and having a fantastic day.

In addition, following thousands of books arriving for the Big Book Swap, children browsed through the vast choice of books displayed in the hall to exchange their vouchers for 'new' books to read.

  • Fairtrade Bananas

    Wed 05 Mar 2014

As part of our focus on Fairtrade fortnight, Sainsbury's kindly donated a Fairtrade banana for every child to enjoy a healthy snack at breaktime.

Bananas are the focus for this year's Fairtrade campaign, highlighting the importance of trying to buy Fairtrade products when we shop. This ensures that all people involved in producing, transporting, selling and buying products all receive a fair deal.

Furthermore the children all took part in an art activity for the church, designing their own banana character. All designs are on display during the Big Brew coffee mornings this week in the church hall, where some of the children are helping serve coffee and cakes to our local parishioners. Year group winners of the banana design will be announced in assemblies next week.

  • Storyteller in Year 3

    Wed 05 Mar 2014
Today, Year 3 children and teachers were delighted to welcome Mrs Katy Cawkwell a professional storyteller. The children revelled in the opportunity to bring a story to life participating and interpreting the tale. Later they were given objects which could be integrated into a story, developing a theme of magical powers. What a fantastic day for our Year 3 children!
  • Ash Wednesday

    Wed 05 Mar 2014

Wednesday was the first day of Lent in the Christian calendar. Children participated in a lovely service in the church introduced and concluded by Reverend Overton but led by some of our Year 6 children. The children learned about Jesus going into the wilderness and being tempted and had the opportunity to reflect on their own experiences and temptations.

Reverend Overton and Reverend King performed the ashing ceremony and children were welcome to approach the altar and receive the ashes. With the African Sanctus version of The Lord's Prayer playing in the background, the service provided a wonderful learning, spiritual experience for everyone.
