fter many months of fundraising, discussion, planning and organising our Learning Chalet was officially opened in March. Our current Impact Reporters cut the ribbon at a little ceremony in front of the whole school with "Simply the Best" playing inside! Children of the school had frequently requested somewhere where they could go "inside" if they didn't want to play outside - somewhere where they could read, sit and chat, play games and draw. Therefore the Learning Chalet project was born.
The PTA funded the whole project raising the £25,000 required for the purchase, installation and furnishing of the chalet. It is a huge success, with children just loving using it - the Impact Reporters have decided that initially it should be used as a reward by the Diamond Achievement award winners, Gold achievement award winners, House of the week, Stars of the week and other nominated groups depending on the week's events!
Presentation of Magna Carta : Monday 16th March 2015 2015 brings with it a landmark anniversary; not just for British history, but for human rights around the world. On June 15th, it will be 800 years since the signing of the Magna Carta by King John of England and 25 of his Barons at Runnymede, near Windsor. The children have all enjoyed an assembly in their year groups providing an overview of this event; its historical causes and consequences and its wide reaching impact throughout time and around the world. As a follow up to this, the children were asked to think about the importance of people's rights and create their own set of rights for children in school.
The culmination of this mini school topic about the Magna Carta came on Monday when Dr. Kevehazi came in to speak to the whole school about this famous English document. Being a passionate local historian, Dr. Kevehazi has established a fund to help raise the awareness of the Magna Carta throughout schools in Buckinghamshire. She is visiting many schools and presenting free copies of an 18th Century English print of the Magna Carta, the original of which is owned by her family. So far she has presented over 2,000 copies to local schools. Dr. Kevehazi gave an exceptionally informative assembly to the children about the history of the Magna Carta and answered a few questions from the children. A prize miniature copy of the Magna Carta print was also given to the child who asked the best question about the document. Jake Barry of Year 6 was the deserving winner with a very perceptive question, "How did the King and Barons of England notify the people of Magna Carta and its clauses?"
We hope this series of activities and events has given the children a chance to reflect on not just the proud history of England, but also the importance of human rights around the world.

Congratulations to the mixed team, Betsy Godfrey, Charlie Walsh, Poppy Metcalfe and Oliver Evans who represetned our school and the South of England at the National Gymnastics Finals held in Stoke on Trent on Saturday. In the competition open to every primary school in England, 18 teams took part in the U11 mixed team event. The children had to perform a floor routine, comprising 6 movements, with links leaps, balance and strength skills in addition to vaulting over the box and performing a group sequence to music.
Our gymnasts performed superbly from 11.30am, demonstrating confidence and skill on the 12 metre square of mats, followed by performing vaults with 'take off' from beyond 1m 30cm to demonstrate flight on and flight off the box. A long wait followed until 4pm when our turn to perform the group sequence which requires gymnasts to synchronise their movements as well as creating shapes and patterns in movement around the square of mats.
The level of compeition was as tough as ever, but in true CSPA style, our gymnasts rose to the challenge and just being pipped at the post, came a fantastic second place with 110.230 points to Hornsby House with 111.260 points, an independent school in London. The children were presented with silver medals - a real achievement! Well done!
Huge thanks go to coach, John Underwood for his tireless enthusiasm and commitment to the school and to gymnastics.

On Sunday the 8th March 2015 Felicity, Chloe and I organised a sponsored run to raise money for our friend Archie, who has muscular dystrophy. Felicity had an idea to get sponsored to run around Black Park lake 15 times, in the end we managed to complete 15 laps but not necessarily running, this took all afternoon. We wore orange T shirts with the words ‘Action for Archie’. We set out to raise £100.00 but through kind donations from friends and family we raised around £600.00”

This is yet again, another example of the fantastic response from the pupils of Chalfont St Peter who always seem to go the "extra mile" (or 15miles in this case!)! Well done Doris!! You're a superstar!
Cross Country Match at Lowndes Park : Saturday 7th March 2015 Our final cross country match took place last Saturday at Lowndes Park, Chesham. It was a beautiful morning and our runners were fantastic in rising to the challenge of a rather difficult course. All children represented the academy in fine form and many gained personal best places on the finish line.
Well done everybody! Our final cross country session is on Wednesday, finishing at 4.15pm (please see letter already sent out). |
