Science Workshops for Years 5 and 6 18th January 2017

This week we were lucky enough to have a company called 'Hands on Science' visit our school. Year 5 participated in an interactive workshop called 'Rollercoaster Fun' in which they learnt scientific concepts related to physics! Year 6 dissected animal hearts, they explored: the anatomy, function and the importance of maintaining a healthy heart. The whole day was filled with active learning, teamwork and scientific dialogue!

    Google Expeditions 16th January 2017

We were delighted that the children enjoyed a visit from “Google Expeditions” to experience virtual reality tours of a wide variety of locations around the world this week. The viewers work when combined with either a smartphone or ipod and the educational experience is driven by the teacher who controls what the children see and learn about via their ipad. The feedback from the children was tremendous: “It was the best lesson ever!” said many of them! We would like to ask for your help to deliver this kind of opportunity regularly, to enhance our children’s learning experience in school. The PTA have agreed to purchase the cardboard virtual reality viewers but we need your old iphones (5 or later) or android phones (4.4 or later). We are looking to create a set of 30 for use by a class at a time. Perhaps your business or the company you work for regularly upgrade their phones, either recycling or donating to charity? We would love to hear from anyone who may be able to donate either a single phone or multiple phones so that the children can start using this technology in school.

Table Tennis and Gymnastics Update January 2017

    Table Tennis Winners

I am delighted to report that both our U11 girls’ team and U 11 boys’ team won the National Zone Finals on Saturday at Birmingham. They qualify for the National Regional Finals on Sunday 5th March

    In Bristol.

Unbeaten in their matches, as Bucks county champions themselves, Chalfont St Peter CE Academy overwhelmed the county champion teams from Birmingham, Worcestershire, Warwickshire and also the runners up from Buckinghamshire.

Overcoming some very strong opposition, the Chalfont St Peter players performed with outstanding play and great tenacity to win their matches throughout the day.

    Congratulations to:

Girls: Emily Harper, Cerys Skyrne Davies, Rachel Iles, Ella and Sophie Culver.

Boys: Luca Mailey, Jack Mailey, Nick Carter, Dexter Dalston and Thomas Brown.

I would like to thank the parents for their transport and support during the day and to our two very able coaches John and son, Joseph Underwood for their enthusiasm and expert tactical advice during the day.

    Well done the Academy!

    Southern Region Gymnastic Champions!

Chalfont St Peter CE Academy’s mixed team won the Milano Southern Region Championships on Sunday. Performing their vault, floor routines and group sequence with excellence, the mixed team qualify for the National Finals in Stoke on Trent on Saturday 11th March.

Congratulations to Isiah Samuel, Verity Matthews and Milly Metcalfe.

Our boys’ team performed brilliantly on the floor and vault but had a slight mishap in the group sequence relegating the team from gold to bronze medallists. Our girls’ team performed really well against a large number of very strong teams but were squeezed into 4th place.

I would like to congratulate all of our gymnasts for their performances and our parents and their relations for their wonderful support and look forward to our next competition - the Southern Region Floor and Vault Championships in February.
