On Thursday 11th February, four pupils from Chalfont St Peter CE Academy visited St. Mary's school for a Thinking Skills day. The students had to work collaboratively and use their creative, mathematical, construction, reflective and problem solving skills to complete a variety of tasks. Everyone worked really hard at all challenges and had a really enjoyable day - full of learning experiences.  They also came second out of all the schools! Congratulations CSPA and thank you to Mrs Johnson for accompanying the children and also completing 'teacher's' thinking skills'!!

    Wed 10 Feb 2016
Each Wednesday, wonderful smells of cooking waft through the corridor as the Year 3 children put together their recipes with Ms Meek and Mrs Botia. Last week, pizza with a variety of toppings and this week cakes were on the menu. The children's enthusiasm and creativity is a delight! Well done teachers for giving our children these opportunities.
  • Ash Wednesday Wednesday 10th February 2016

    Wed 10 Feb 2016

Wednesday this week was the first day of Lent in the Christian calendar. Children participated in a lovely service in the church introduced and concluded by Reverend Overton but led by some of our Year 6 children. The children learned about Jesus going into the wilderness and being tempted and had the opportunity to reflect on their own experiences and temptations.

Reverend Overton and Reverend Topham performed the ashing ceremony and children were welcome to approach the altar and receive the ashes. With the African Sanctus version of The Lord's Prayer playing in the background, the service provided a wonderful learning, spiritual experience for everyone.

  • Girls' football match v Elangeni: Tuesday 9th February

    Tue 09 Feb 2016

On Tuesday the girls' football team had a league match against Elangeni School. It was a very challenging matach the girls played really well. Rosie, Evie and Charlotte played rilliantly in defence; Kate did really well in goal, saving almost every sho; Cerys, Emily, Isabella were fantastic in mid-field and Amber, Sash and Emily B were 'awesome' up front.

In the first hald, the girls won a penalty but unfortunately they missed the shot. It was a muddy and cold day on Mill Meadow, making it very difficult play.

In the second half, Elangeni scored, making the score 1-0. By then it had started to rain, Sash nearly scored and so did Cerys but unfortunately, it didn't go our way. By the end of the game the score was 1-0 to Elangeni.

    report by Miss N Romain

Thank you to all the supporters who came to watch the girls play and well done to the girls for fighting a good fight!

  • Wear Red Day 5th February 2016

    Fri 05 Feb 2016

The children of Chalfont St Peter CE Academy once again pulled out all the stops to raise money for charity. This time, we were fundraising for the British Heart Foundation as one of our pupils has benefited from their work due the heart defect she was born with. On Friday 5th February, the children came to school, dressed in red - some from top to toe! The collection basket began to fill quickly as children tipped in coins and some even popped in notes as we travelled from year to year. I am delighted to report we raised the grand total of

    £505!!

Thank you to everyone for their support for this amazing charity!

  • Red Priest Workshops 5th February 2016

    Fri 05 Feb 2016
A group of twelve children were invited to a special workshop at the Royal Grammar School in High Wycombe to take part in a concert given by a renown early music ensemble called "The Red Priest". The children represented our school beautifully, playing on their violins, cello and recorders in a workshop. The concert finished with a combined performance of " The Harmonious Blacksmith" by G.F.Handel. The lead recorder player was awe-inspiring and the children had a fantastic time. As one parent said afterwards , "The children were buzzing with excitement and feeling completely inspired by the whole experience". Well done to all the children who took part and contributed so confidently to the wonderful concert at the end! Thank you to Mrs White for her unfailing enthusiasm and expertise in the music field.
  • La Chandeleur 2nd February 2016

    Tue 02 Feb 2016

Every year Mrs Downie takes on this massive challenge and organises pancakes for the whole school on this "French Pancake Day" known as "La Chandeleur. Group by group, the children make their way to the hall to ask for their pancake (in French!) and enjoy sharing this occasion with their friends.

The date actually marks when Jesus was presented at the temple in Jerusalem and is known in France as La Chandeleur. Traditionally, the French celebrated this holiday by decorating their homes with candles, holding a lantern procession, and of course, eating crêpes. But why the crêpes? Here are a few possible explanations.

    • As well as a religious holiday, Chandeleur is an occasion to rejoice in more sunshine as the days gradually get longer. Apparently a round, golden crêpe just happens to be the perfect snack to symbolize the sun.
    • Crêpes are also easy to make and were traditionally a good way to use up the extra wheat from the previous year in hopes of a good harvest in the upcoming season.

Well done once again to Mrs Downie, our French specialist for not only teaching our children French but also regularly enlightening us all and immersing the school in a love of language and a little French culture. We look forward to the next occasion coming up soon - the visit of the French Theatre group.

  • Equestrian News Update February 2016

    Tue 02 Feb 2016

e have now received the National Schools Equestrian association January results. There was a variety of age of competitors entering the competition with some entries from grammar schools, so Olivia would have been competing against children much older than she is.

The intro A test was a very close competition. Olivia came 4th scoring 168, with the winner scoring 171.5, so very close indeed!  There was a large number of competitors for the Prelim 12 test, and Olivia did really well coming 6th out of a group of 26.

This means she has successfully qualified for both the intro A and Prelim 12 championship in April. Furthermore, she has league points for both these tests. The highest scoring competitor with the most league points in each class after the 3 months of tests will win a rug for their pony.

So far the points table looks like this:
