Year 6 came dressed up as animals today in aid of their charity fundraising focus for the WWF. Many arrived in school dressed in their "onesies", some with additional face paint and others with costumes they had designed and put together specially for the day.
Well done to all involved and many thanks for kind donations totalling in the region of £90.
We were delighted to welcome Andrew Riley and Colleen from Hamptons Estate Agents in Gerrards Cross today to present some wonderful prizes to the winners of this year's art competition. The children had to design and decorate the templates of some Christmas crackers which have been displayed in the windows of the offices in Gerrards Cross.
Passers-by and parents have been popping in to vote for their favourites and the winners received an impressive art set of materials including paints, crayons, brushes etc. The generous prizes were gratefully received by all the children and a generous donation was also made to the school for our participation.
In connection to our whole school value of ‘charity’ the whole school has decided to raise awareness of four different charities, one for each year group.
The idea was that we try and do something to raise awareness of these charities as well as trying to do something for somebody else in the lead up to this festive and giving time of year.
The charities that we have supported are:
Year 6 -‘World Wildlife Fund.’
Year 5 - ‘Mary’s Meals’. This organisation ensures that the children of Africa have a meal within an educational setting.
Year 4 - UNICEF
Year 3- The Children’s Society
The children and staff have raised the money in some truly inventive ways: sponsored silences, bike rides, cake and craft stalls, bingo, hair design competitions, pedicures, cinema afternoons, animal dress up days, a real range of charitable giving both in and out of school.
As always the children of Chalfont St Peter C of E Academy have been truly amazing in their efforts and we are in awe of their passion and desire to raise money for others.
All these charities will benefit enormously from our support as well as raising the children’s awareness of the global issues that surround us, especially in the lead up to Christmas.
We would also like to thank you for all your support, time and patience in helping and sponsoring your children, it is very much appreciated. They would not be able to do these things without your care and support.
Our Year 3 and 4 children completed 4 performances of their 'international' themed nativity today. The presentation involving 180 children was delivered to parents and guests in St Peter's Church. The children sang fantastically, with the music which reflected the journey of the angels to various countries of the world to explore how children celebrated Christmas in each. Throughout the performance, the story of the original nativity was explored and despite different celebrations, the true meaning of Christmas remained the same.
Well done to all involved and some real 'stars' of the future!
Our annual visit to the Community Centre to sing at the VOPAG group's AGM took place today. This is a visit we always look forward to where a group of our Year 6 children perform some of the songs from our Christmas Production - this year's Joseph and the Amazing technicolor Dreamcoat.
The older members of our community delight in the children's enthusiasm, confidence and talent on stage each year and this year was no exception!
At the end of the performance a presentation was made to the winner of the Vopag 'community' logo competition - Sam Fenner was the lucky recipient of the award. Many thanks to the lovely members of VOPAG for welcoming us once again and also providing refreshments at the end. We look forward to next year!
Our Year 6 Young Entrepreneurs had their first sale today for Christmas. Having pitched the design of their products to Mrs Gale and Mrs Lown, the groups received their £20 investment from the school to begin making their gifts. As the day of the sale grew closer, the groups marketed their items with posters and tours around the year groups to advertise their ideas.
Enthusiastic buyers flocked to the Da Vinci Suite to purchase gifts for Christmas at the end of the day - the whole area was packed out! Several groups completely sold out and all made a handsome day's takings. All proceeds go back into the Young Entrepreneurs' fund which when pooled at the end of the year, will hopefully (as in past years) fund a trip to the V &A museum in London.
The next sale will be held in the Spring term. Look out for it!
Year 5 had a wonderful afternoon today, learning about Hannukah. It is known as the Festival of Light and is an eight-day Jewish holiday commemorating the re-dedication of the Holy Temple (the Second Temple) in Jerusalem. Mrs Smith, one of our Year 5 parents provided an excellent insight into the festival, thoroughly enjoyed by the children. She described how the lights of a unique candelabrum are lit, one additional light on each night of the holiday, progressing to eight on the final night. With a story and interactive activities, the children had first hand information about this religious festival which added to their RE learning for this term.
A huge thank you to Mrs Smith for her time and energy in preparing the information and activities.
In connection to our whole school value of ‘charity’ the whole school held a 'Christmas Jumper Day' today. The day was in aid of Save the Children and a grand total of £328.83 was raised. At the end of a busy week of upper school Christmas Productions, the stage came down today and so it was a lovely distraction for children to wear their Christmas jumpers as an alternative to their usual school v-neck sweaters!
In addition the PTA organised a festive lunch which included muffins and crackers for the occasion. A super day to end a super week! Well done everyone!
Year 5 and 6 children have just completed their run of seven performances, 3 Dress Rehearsals) of our schools' version of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, thrilling the packed audiences with their confidence, talent and enthusiasm. Nearly 180 children filled the huge stage, spanning the length and half the width of our school hall. Despite illness and sickness, the children battled on, supporting each other and covering others' roles throughout the week and a half.
A huge thank you must go to the great teamwork of parents who supported Mr Underwood and Mr Eggleton during the day constructing the base staging after which a small group continued to build the features required for this year's mammoth production, including sliding doors, a chariot, a prison, whilst the scenery was designed and painted.
Props and head-dresses were created in grand style and with wonderful costumes added, the children had a great start to their performances on stage.
Past parent, Mr John Tipping took individual photos of every child and group photographs for parents to buy and Chair of Governors, Mr Whittall, filmed the show to be professionally edited for parents to purchase, hopefully in time for Christmas.
A special thank you to past pupil Laurie Deane, who left 2 years ago and now, enthused by his involvement with acting and theatre, has his own sound and lighting equipment and managed the music during the week.
We like to think that our productions bring a little of the 'West End' to Chalfont St Peter and we wait to hear of past pupils who have been inspired to take their acting and singing further and even join a West End cast! We hear that two past pupils currently are either auditioning or performing in London currently - one was 'Joseph' in 2003 and the other a 'brother' in the same cast!
