Academic Development
During the school year, there are a number of ways for you to find out how your child is doing at school and they are shared below:
| Year group meetings (September) | Early in September at the start of the new school year, you will be invited into school to meet your child’s class teacher/s, see their classrooms and watch a presentation by the year group leader. The presentation will share information for the year ahead. |
Year group information email (September, January and April) | You will also receive termly emails with information for the term ahead. This information will also be posted on the school website. |
Parents’ evening (October) | An opportunity to meet with your child’s class teacher and discuss their start to the new academic year. You will also be able to view their work books for English and Maths. |
Open mornings (November) | Our doors open for anyone to come and visit the school and see it in action. |
Parents’ evening (March) | A further opportunity to meet with your child’s class teacher and review their progress so far and discuss how to make continued progress during the remainder of the school year. |
Annual written report (July) | A personal and detailed report written by your child’s class teacher/s with additional end of year teacher assessments. |
During the school year, your child will undertake some summative assessments to support their learning and progress. Some are statutory tests and others assist teachers in making their formative teacher assessments and inform future teaching. Here is an overview:
Year 3 baseline assessments (September) | Once settled at CSPA, Year 3 children will complete some English and Maths baseline tests. |
Termly reading, SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) and maths assessments | All children from Year 3-6 sit these tests (Year 6 sit previous year’s SATs papers). |
Year 6 SATs (statutory assessment tests). May. | These are tests all Year 6 children across England sit at the end of key stage 2 before joining secondary school. They are statutory tests provided by the Department for Education. |
CATs (cognitive ability tests) | Children in Year 3 and Year 5 complete these online tests which provide standardised scores. |
We have an open-door policy at CSPA! If you have any queries about your child, please contact their class teacher. You can do this in person (if appropriate) or via email to the school office. Staff will reply when able to outside of their teaching hours to agree to a mutually convenient appointment. Please be assured that your child’s teacher will contact you directly if there are any specific areas of your child’s learning which would benefit from your input at home. We very much value positive and strong relationships with our parent community and we are always keen to work with you to maximise your child’s progress each year.
