Southern Region Milano Gymnastics Championship , Sunday 13th December 2015

ongratulations to the mixed team, Poppy Metcalfe, Tia Banger, Olivia Convery and Oliver Evans and the boys' team, Ted Quaife, Finley Howard and James McDonald who represented our school in the Southern Region Gymnastics Finals held in on Sunday. In the competition open to every primary school in the south of England, 4 mixed teams and 3 boys' teams in the took part in the U11 event. The children had to perform a floor routine, comprising 6 movements, with links leaps, balance and strength skills in addition to vaulting over the box and performing a group sequence to music.

Our gymnasts performed superbly from 11.30am, demonstrating confidence and skill on the 12 metre square of mats, followed by performing vaults with 'take off' from beyond 1m 30cm to demonstrate flight on and flight off the box. A long wait followed until 4pm when our turn to perform the group sequence which requires gymnasts to synchronise their movements as well as creating shapes and patterns in movement around the square of mats.

The level of competition was as tough as ever, but in true CSPA style, our gymnasts rose to the challenge and our mixed team won by a massive 6 point margin and our boys were just pipped at the post by 0.4 points, coming a fantastic second place. Both teams will go forward to represent the South of England in the National Finals in March! Well done!

Our children wore brand new tracksuits, generously sponsored by The Nick Ford Trust along with new kit bags. Grateful thanks to John Ford, past parent and friend of the school for once again providing these much needed funds to keep our kits looking magnificent and worthy of the high standards achieved in sport at our school. Many thanks also go to Amersham Fabrics for the embroidery of the Nick Ford Trust logo almost for free, in support of our school.

Huge thanks go to coach, John Underwood for his tireless enthusiasm and commitment to the school and to gymnastics.
