Steel Band Visit
As part of our International Arts week, the children enjoyed a demonstration of steel drums by "Irie Steelpans" playing during an assembly for the whole school which involved the children singing and dancing in a carnival atmosphere. The characteristic sound of the drums delighted the attentive audience and actually playing the drums was a wonderful experience for members of the upper school who experienced a series of workshops in their classes during the rest of the day. A great experience for the children to further their understanding of playing chords and melody and also to appreciate a different type of instrument, perhaps not commonly seen in schools! It was fascinating to find out how the steelpans are made and the history of their development in the Caribbean.
