Children of our school participated in a wonderful celebration of music on Wednesday 30th April. The orchestra opened the performance with a couple of pieces they had rehearsed in spectacular style, before groups and individuals took the stage. Mrs White, our music co-ordinator specialist, prepared the running order for the evening of a wide-ranging sample of the talent from across the school.
With children of Y3 learning the recorder, Y4 violin and cello, Y5 african drums and Y6 learning keyboards, the evening included musicians whose talent was discovered during curriculum-based lessons. Mrs Jacobs who provides 'Wider Opportunities' lessons, through our partnership with the Amersham suppported an 'encore' group who have continued learning strings. Mr Hollingdale one of our peripatetic teachers, has been working with an enthusiastic group of p-bone players (plastic trombones!) who joined the traditional brass players in an exciting rendition of Pink Floyd piece and James Bond pieces. Mrs Evans introduced wind band players including flute, saxophone, clarinet and oboe for their turn before the Swing Band - our newly created group performed together. Not to be out-done, our Y3 strummers played along on open strings with the drummers!
With the delightful individual voices of one or two children to add a little extra variety, along with incredible talent on the drum kit displayed by two of our Year 6 boys, we all enjoyed a magnificent evening's entertainment. We look forward to more singing at our Summer Event in July.
