National Gymnastics Finals: Saturday 2nd May
CSPA boys’ team, comprising three new young gymnasts, performed with great panache to gain third place in the national floor and vault championships on Saturday, 2nd May. A wonderful achievement considering our new, young team members and their relative inexperience to national competition. Performing in the first round of the day at 9am the boys set a high standard of performance and a competitive benchmark for the other teams across Great Britain to challenge. It was late in the afternoon when the results were announced that two teams had ousted our team into third place. The team from the east of England came first, followed by our great rivals over the years from Newcastle Grammar School from the north edging us into third place by 1 point. Our captain, Charlie Walsh completed the day as one of the highest scoring boys of the day in both his floor and vault disciplines. Sadly, Charlie moves on to his new school in September but leaves behind a team that will be ready by challenge for the national title again in 2016. Representing the South of England alongside Chalfont St Peter were the girls from Maltman’s Green and the mixed team from Stoke Poges. Between us we achieved the overall highest scoring region in the finals and once again the national George Finney trophy was presented to the South! Well done boys!
Well done the South of England! A special mention for the wonderful support we have received from the parents, relations and friends of our squad over the past year and it is very much appreciated the excellent support received at the weekend at Stoke on Trent.
Thank you also to Mr Underwood for boundless enthusiasm and quality coaching which enabled the boys to reach this stage. We look forward to continued success next year!
