UPDATED NEW RESOURCES: Ms Honeyben has created new mindfulness videos - find these in the Covid-19 - Mental Health and Wellbeing' folder

Mr Hicks

Each week, you will be set a reading task, a SPAG task and a longer writing task which will take you to the end of the week. The idea is that you will include the SPAG objective in your writing at the end of the week as well so you will need to complete that first.

All of these can be completed in your book that you were given on Friday afternoon or on paper; if you would prefer to type onto the computer and have access to one, then you can do this as well.

NEW WORK ADDED! Week beginning Monday 30th March

Monday's Task

This week we are going to be thinking about adding prefixes to the beginning of root words and adding suffixes to the end of root words.

Choose your level: 1 star, 2 stars or 3 stars

Sort the suffix

Adding a prefix

Tuesday's Task

Reading comprehension - 'The story of Easter'

Choose your level: 1 star, 2 stars or 3 stars

The Story of Easter reading comprehension

Wednesday's Task

'Eye of the storm'

Watch the video on literacy shed.

The video of "Eye of the Storm" tells the story of an anonymous airship pilot, whom we see in a very dark, simplified form  deciding in his melancholy to steer his airship into a massive (and possible ether-driven) storm. Throughout the video we see him preparing his craft, setting it on "autopilot", and saying goodbye to his one companion- a dragon.

Write a description of the scene and include some dialogue between the pilot and the dragon, using punctuation for direct speech.

Thursday's Task

Re-watch the video 'Eye of the storm'

Write a letter from the pilot to his family saying goodbye and explaining his plans.

Friday's Task

Re-watch the video 'Eye of the storm'

Write your own ending to the story. Write what you think might happen next. What happens as he goes through the storm? What is on the other side?

PREVIOUS WORK: Week Beginning 23.3.20

Choose a reading book from home. Read the first 2 chapters. Draw a picture of the character in your books and find some of the words to describe them from in the text and write them around your character. Can you think of any other words to describe the character?

I want you to look at adding missing punctuation and correcting the text given. On the link below, I would like you to add question marks, commas, full stops and inverted commas. Rewrite the text into your books and add in the missing punctuation. I would like all of you to try the 2 star exercise. Once you have completed it, you can check your answers and put any other missing punctuation in using a purple pen.

Watch this video. Describe the setting and what you will be able to see from the top of the lighthouse. What will you be able to hear from there? Will there be any smells?

Create a spider diagram to include everything you will be able to see/hear/smell from the lighthouse.

You can watch the video again if you need to. Your task today is to retell the story from the lighthouse keeper's point of view. Make sure you include a good description of the setting as well and the character's feelings at different points of the story.

What was the moral of this story? Pause the film at a moment that you feel really shows the moral of this story and draw the image and write a paragraph to describe how this demonstrates the moral.
