Mathematics

Week 2

If you wish to, start your maths off each day with some Barvember problems.  These are word problems which test your logical thinking.  Start off with problem 1 if you’ve never tried these before, and spend around 5-10 minutes on these.  If you’ve done problems like this before, start with question 3 or 4.

On Friday, there is an extra Challenge.  If you manage to solve it, take a picture of your answer and working and e-mail it to Miss Pool via the school office.

Hint: using the bar will help you to solve the problems.

This week, we will be looking at decimals and fraction equivalents.  You may have done some of this earlier on in the year, but it will be good revision for you if this is the case.

For each day this week, watch the relevant video on the following website:  https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-5/  look at week 1.

Monday

L.O: decimals up to 2dp

Watch the video (lesson 1) on the White Rose link.  Pause the video when directed and complete task questions.  When completed, mark your questions.

Week 1

MONDAY and TUESDAY

Plan and create your own Maths game on a number or shape theme.

https://garyhall.org.uk/make-maths-board-games.html

WEDNESDAY

Have a go at these reasoning activities- for each ‘problem’ there is a simplification and a challenge option so it is up to you which level you choose for each activity.

THURSDAY

Practice a wide range of different maths topics using the games on this site.

FRIDAY

Your task today is to practice addition and subtraction calculations- there are 2 options- MILD for those who may want to start off a little gentler and HOT for those who want more of a challenge.  Please try to do these mentally if you can.

There is then an extra challenge sheet for all and then a reasoning ‘game’ which you can play with a partner.
